Betty Nowak
Founder, and still on the measures
Started the workroom in a garage in Red Hill in 1998 with one machine and a station wagon. Still does two or three measures a week because, in her words, you cannot quote a room you have not stood in.
About us
We have been making curtains in the same suburb since 1998. The people who measure your windows are the people who sew them and the people who hang them, which is rarer than it should be.
The story
Betty took the first job in 1998 because a neighbour could not find anyone who would make curtains for an old Queenslander with windows that were not quite square. Nearly every window in this part of Brisbane is not quite square, so the work kept coming.
The garage became a workroom, the workroom moved to Enoggera Terrace, and the station wagon became a van. What has not changed is that everything is still cut and sewn here, by people whose names are on this page, rather than ordered in from a warehouse and hoped for the best.
We are not the cheapest quote you will get. We are usually the one that turns up when it said it would, and the one still hanging straight in ten years.

The people
Founder, and still on the measures

Installs and motorisation
Bettys son, and the reason we say yes to the awkward windows. Tracks, brackets, motors, and the four metre stairwell nobody else wanted to quote.
Head of the workroom
Sixteen years at the bench. If your curtain hangs dead straight and the hem sits a whisper off the floor, that is Priya. She also decides which fabrics we are willing to sell.
Measures and quotes
The one who will tell you a room does not need what you asked for. Has talked more people out of a purchase than into one, which is exactly why we send him.

Local making
Every curtain is cut on our own tables and sewn on our own machines, about four hundred metres from the showroom. Nothing is sent offshore and nothing is made to a standard size and trimmed to fit.
Fabric comes from nine Australian suppliers we have used for years, all of whom will tell us honestly how a cloth behaves after five summers of Queensland sun. Hardware is chosen the same way. If we would not put it in our own house we do not quote it.
Our workmanship is guaranteed for five years, and we will come back and fix anything that is our fault for as long as you own the curtains.

The showroom is on Enoggera Terrace and the kettle is usually on. Or book a measure and we will come to you instead.
